This article attempts to make Cisco's organisational units and job roles more clear to those not in the know.

[edit] Job Roles

[edit] Sales

Title Description
AM Account Manager - Your sales guy. Focused primarily on making the deal, AM's are either dedicated to a single account or work with multiple customers. They work on contracts, quotes, and procurement with the end customer.
SE Systems Engineer - These guys work with (not for) the Account Managers to work with the customers from a technical perspective. Like Account Managers, they are either dedicated to a particular account or work with multiple customers. Typically, an SE focuses on all of Cisco's technologies, but specializes in one area in particular. For any technical queries, your SE should be your first call.
RM Regional Manager - These manage the Account Managers and may be engaged on specific opportunities.
SEM Systems Engineering Manager - These guys manage the Systems Engineers within the team. Typically, these guys are not as technical as their SE's, but may be engaged on specific deals or escalated to in certain circumstances. For account issues when an SE is unavailable either the SEM or the AM should be contacted.
CSE Consulting Systems Engineer - These guys typically started out as regular SE's, but took their specialism to much greater detail (typically at the expense of the other technical areas). A consulting SE therefore focuses on a specific technology or set of technologies. Interestingly, an SE and a Consulting SE may be the same rank and stature within Cisco (as generalists are as useful as specialists).
CSA Consulting Systems Architect - The CSA drives the technical vision within their account. They are focused on bringing absolute technical knowledge to that customer and driving forward their vision of technical leadership.
