BGP Database Terminology

Posted by nemith in Juniper, Cisco, BGP, Dec. 9, 2009 at 1:35 p.m.

Lately I have seen some confusion on the databases that BGP keeps and how they relate to each other and the routing table. So hopefully this post will help clear that up.

Defined in RFC4721 there are 3 different types RIB (Routing Information Base) databases:

  • Adj-RIB-In
  • Adj-RIB-Out
  • Loc-RIB

Junos 10.0 Released

Posted by nemith in Juniper, Nov. 7, 2009 at 12:39 a.m.

Juniper has released Junos 10.0 for all platforms (M, MX, T, EX, SRX). This release among other things brings interface ranges to the MX and EX platforms which is long needed feature (although a bit different that what you may be used to on other vendors).

Support for the new MX Trio 3D blades (No MX80 yet . Planned for next quarters 10.1 release) is included in this release as well.

The Branch SRX platforms (210, 240, 650) can now act as a wireless controller controlling the soon to be announced AX411 802.11abgn access point.

Read more for a a list of features that caught my eye.

(Un)planned site maintenace

Posted by nemith in Website, Nov. 1, 2009 at 11:08 p.m.

If anyone tried to access the website this evening you may have been presented with an error saying the server was down. Well this was true and I mucked up the server which required an emergency rebuild. Luckly I was able to save everything and the databases and files were restored with little fuss.

The server should be fully operational (maybe I'll point it at the peaceful planet of Alderan) now. Let me know if you see any issues and I apologize for the outage
